Okra has a torpedo-shaped, grooved pod about five inches long and pale grassy green in color. Its skin can often be fuzzy or prickly, which can aggravated sensitive skin. Its flesh bears a tender spongy membrane with many small white seeds and a distinctive sticky sap that creates the flesh’s gelatinous texture. Okra pairs well alongside ingredients with bold, complex flavors and varying textures, as in soups or stews.
